a4 2.6 idle problems

hi we have a problem with my brothers 2.6 v6 audi a4 abc engine basicly the car at idle alternates between 1000-2000rpm at tick over it pulses.

then when driving if you come off the throttle it starts jolting around, as the revs drop engine braking is rough.

any ideas

possibly a few things including MAF and lambda sensor. It would be worth checking and maybe posting on audisport.net because there's a large community of people who know A4s.
