Just thinking ahead, just in case I can, turbo question
Over here it is universally accepted that 044 pumps are noisy, and from my experience it is so.
Here, this is exactly how they all sound, and this guy has a loud exhaust.
Excellent thread for me.
Now a bit off topic. My RS2 has most of the bits but a different hybrid turbo which supposedly has a big hot side and the rest MXB. I don't know what that exactly means. Actually it runs excellent once the turbo is at work up to the rev limiter. It just has not the right software I think as there is an immediate drop of pressure @2500RPM from 0.5Bar to 0.3Bar until 3000RPM when pedal to the metal but nice increase of boost to 1bar@3000RPM if pedal is not to the metal (80% down or so). Fuel economy is surprisignly good.

If you know someone in Switzerland selling a Ur-20V --> tell me.
i would go wagner tubi rather than cast.
I think its cheaper and with a turbo that size id imagine youd get very little difference lag and your mid range/top end will be uber smooth.
It puts the turbo in a better place and you can heat wrap the manifold to stop heat soak into your stock intake piping and a tubular i5 sounds quite something!
As long as its braced properly you should be fine.

but that is not the wanted plug and play
needs fabrication
what you save in the ex manifold you going to spend 3 times in fabrication of oil and water lines downpipe and bracing the turbo
remember that this is a Daily Driver
i wouldn't rap the tubes for daily as per carsten advice/warranty.
on my first wagner i wrapped it. to be honest the difference is minimal regarding heat and lag. lets face it you dont fit a turbo like this without a 3" pipe so thats gonna cost anyway. lines are not an issue. try any line company for them to be made up.
regarding the MYTH that tubes are no good for daily. ask my car its been on them for 3 years or so. the 2nd gen tubes are better by far for daily. no signs of any issues yet.
when i had the stock intake i had no issues with intake temps
i think the tubes are a fantastic product be careful with
1 air filter choice and piping.
2. bracing.
3. wastegate bracing too. mines not but thats the issue i had on the original tubes.
My 044 is a lot noisier than standard ESP when low on fuel ,I added some extra sound proofing above the tank which helped a little but it still sounds like a vibrator on a table ! !

@RPM you’re not hijacking the thread, goodness knows I’ve hijacked enough threads on this forum in my time.
@T2 Andy - as a mater of interest following on from your comment regarding the responsiveness comment about the 996 brakes are they running DS2500, what I was thinking was that with more regular pads such as ATE or pagid make mean the brakes straight away. My driving would never test such pads no mind DS2500.
@prj - I agree that due to the old design of the RS2 turbo the price is dear, but presumably it is the market creating a high'ish price for the turbo because of it’s desirability for such frequent applications such as my intended spec. Thanks again for your time.
I’ve noted and taken on board your comments about the front intercooler, a second hand RS2 intercooler with the existing oem S2 inlet manifold would be the correct choice, assuming I can lay my hand on one, as if I had to buy a new one it would be a Wagner RS2 evo and if it was one of those it would have to be the front inlet Wagner manifold, meaning new front inlet Wagner manifold, rather than buy a new Wagner RS2 intercooler to match the original rear inlet manifold. Also it will mean it would only have to be custom mapped once.
Initially the spec should work with an RS2 chipped chip?
In order to get a benchmark, where and what price is a brand new standard RS2 turbo or new refurbished hybrid RS2?
Is an oem S2 fuel pump different from an oem RS2 fuel pump?, and what about the S2 oem fuel pressure regulator for my level of spec.?
Is the oem S2 clutch different to the oem RS2 clutch? If so presumably an S2 owner should replace their worn S2 clutch with a new oem RS2 for an easy upgrade?
Last question what are people’s comments on the the porting and polishing of the head, I accept it would be dear to take the head off/off not to mind the porting/polishing of the head, as a say just curious to know to satisfy my curiosity.
When my own bias is factored in with the advices given it may mean I buy one or two bits from Wagner that is not really required, but so be it.
Vibration on the table - nice to see the thread is strictly on topic - lol. No worries whatsoever.
Thanks to all who have contributed to the thread so far, it has allowed me to make an informed choice on what will suit my requirements, and hopefully spend the money once and efficiently, and hopefully informed others also.
I now only need to go on to a money forum to find out how to make some.
