stock AAN with Dahlback intake vs. chipped 3B

    Hey guys,

Last night we had a little get together of local Audis. A friend of mine was there with his AAN converted coupe quattro and I of course had my 3B coupe quattro there. The only mod he has done is the Dahlback intake manifold adn a cone filter. ECU is stock. My 3B is stock but my ECU has been upgraded with a 2.5 bar pressure tranducer and Mihnea's software. Yet my friend's car pulls waaaaaay harder than mine, and he doesn't even have 3rd gear! There's no lag either. It spools up very quickly to 15psi and stays there though the rev range, whereas mine takes quite a while to build. Mine eventually gets to about 19-21 psi but there's never a steady plateau of boost. Before 3000 rpms, it feels like the old 7A! I can say that now that I've driven the car for a couple of weeks and have come down from the initial excitement I'm a little concerned about the lack of performance. Would the Dahlback intake make that much difference on a stock motor? The power in his car is incredible!

My friend's exhaust is essentially leftover parts of his stock coupe exhaust. He's removed the cat and rear muffler and now just has the center resonator. Still 2.25" diameter though. Mine is stock coupe as well with a straight pipe in place of the cat. I still have the center and rear muffler though.
His intake was flow tested and balance for each cylinder, but there's no way that just an intake would make that much difference!

The one thing I always wonder about is that when I had everything apart, I found that there was no play in any direction on the turbo shaft (good thing), but the turbo didn't spin all that freely by hand. It would turn without resistance, but it wouldn't spin. It felt kind of stiff, but I figured it was because it had been sitting without oil in it for a couple of years. Now I'm wondering if that's causing the slow spool-up? Any thoughts? My car really should be quicker than it is!

    Hi,
Two things that spring to mind. The 3B in standard form is generally a quick car as its the lightest of the S2.
    Your 3B:
1 check for boost leak especially by I/C O ring
    2 Check and clean MAF
3 Pull fault codes from ECU
4 Check Plugs and make sure they r tight as they tend to work loose
    5 Use top quality petrol
6 Get ur turbo checked out for peace of mind

    His AAN coupe
1 Dhalback reduces turbo lag alot. It cuts out 2.5m of pipework.
multiply that with circumfrence using 60mm diameter and it works
out to be quite some extra volume of air
2 On the 3B the pipe that runs above turbo before joining onto the
throttle body tends to get hot which counteracts the effect of the
I/C to some extend hence his intake temp is much lower
3 I believe his gearbox has a much lower gearing which helps quicker
take off but lower top end
4 He has a less restictive exhaust system which helps quicker spool up
5 What ECU is he running??? :mischeif:

it micht be custom to accomodate all those changes

Hey ben once again.. I think the problem is your turbo. I could blow compressed air into the turbo and it would spin quite easily. No resistence what so over. I wouldn't go nuts over the issuse but who am I to say something I cannot see in person. Ps.. Hopefully start up soon.

However just thinking you might want to check the fuel pump and see what v #s it's putting out.
