    RS2 Misfire

I got a serious misfire problem on cold start and under 1500rpm.
I suspect the coils are to blame here but for over $300 each from Audi is rather rediculous!
Does anyone know what the part number for the coild packs on an RS2 are? Bosch or Beru? I want to see if i can source them locally.

Use 2.0TFSI coilpacks for a cheaper solution (30-35 EUR each).
You will also have to change the wiring.

I'm really not keen to change the wiring. i would just like to get a replacement part that is identical to the original.

Then buy the coils from the dealer...
Even if you pay someone to change the wiring, the total price (coilpacks+wiring+work) will be 2-3x cheaper than buying the coils.

And in the future, if any go wrong, you will be able to replace them for 35 EUR a pop... in 5 minutes...

Look i understand that it will be cheaper this way, but the problem is that i use the vehicle on a daily basis and thought hey, it will be easier if i just order them and when they arrive just fit them.

I am probably not going to need to replace the coils again for another 3-5 years so?

Look, if i cant get any replacment coils then i will go that route.

            There is no different choice.
You can either buy the really expensive new coils from the dealer or buy the coilpacks (2.0TFSI or 1.8T, but 2.0 are better) + wiring.

It's not a big job to extend the wires...
Here is an older pic of how it looks in my car (with 1.8T coilpacks):

A miss at low RPM could be the power output stages (POSs) or coils.

The link below goes through all your coil options including diagnosing whether the problem is a coil or a POS. (BTW, you can buy OE coils for about $120 US so $300 is a lot of "shipping and handling")

                That's cheap.
They cost a lot more here plus there is 20% VAT.

I don't know how it is in South Africa though.

Don't forget that if buying new OE coils - from BERU - you will still have to splice in wires to original plugs and/or make up new connector plugs as they do not come connectorised for plug and play. My advice is to do them all at the same because of this - the old wires are very brittle and its hard not to damage some when renewing coils one at a time

I have heard mixed reports about some alternative coilpacks with respect to their ability to endure heat as long as S2/RS2 items. Old adage of you get what you pay for. My original coils are ~15yr old now and coming to end of life I feel - they cannot last forever. Cheaper ones make financial sense even if they only last 3-5 yrs. Some of the alternative ones look rubbish IMHO where coils are on the bulkhead and long HT tails extend into plug.

The coilpacks work fine if you do not put the cover on...
With it on, there have been some reports that they overheat.

But it looks **** with the cover off.

Plus you get dirt ingress and related issues... this is why I personally prefer the OE setup - I might change my mind when it comes to buying coils though ;-)

Who cares how it looks, as long as it goes fast?
I have no issues with my setup. The only thing was, I had to put that small "holder" on, because the 1.8T coilpacks tend to get loose.
This is why 2.0TFSI ones are better, they fit pefectly.

You might care if a piece of gravel falls down the hole the next time you change spark plugs - LOL

The overheating stories always seemed to be about 1.8T coils - are the 2.0TFSi units better in this regard - can they live under the cover ?

I use rs6 coli pack - BERU- , or you can allso use -BREMI- they are good to. what I like on this coils are if someone of them burn or get demage , you can amediatli find which of there are bad.. on OEM one is difficult to find.. other problem on OEM coils are -they can work but not propetly, on 2.0tfsi - or they work or no. I like it. OEM is ****..

How do you change the plugs without removing the cover?
Either way, I don't think it is possible for gravel to get there if you have the bottom cover attached.
