Firstly you'll not get to 400+ bhp with £1500
The RS2 upgrade route has been popular though there are better turbos out there now.
Am looking at further upgrades to mine next year so I'm interested in others views on how much you need to get to 380bhp and how much to get beyond 400bhp
1986 Coupe q - 2281cc 3B, chargecooler, 2.75" exh & downpipe, ported head, water injection, CGR box, modified MD357 turbo, 440cc injectors, high power coil.
    2004 A4 2.5TDi convertible, re-mapped to 180bhp
    2011 A5 sportback 3TDi-Backbox delete, remap

Holset HX35 Super 700e, exhaust manifold max 200e(cheap chinese stainless one, or even sheaper if you do it yourself), RS2 injectors 250e, 3" DP max 100e if you can do it yourself, custom chip 300e. Close to £1500 and you get near or maybe more than 400hp, but you can get issues with the ex manifold. Stock conrods are also in danger when the power reach above 400hp/500Nm.

Forgot the intercooler, yes you need to upgrade it also, 150e..?

If I remember right you can get it with internal wastegate or not depends on the ex housing, and you can get the housing in different size and with T3 flange.

KKD Motorsport is a big dealer of Holset turbos here in Finland: http://www.kkdmotorsport.com/kauppa....8&k=1270835105

You'll need a re-map with any extra power mods..... oh, and then you'll need brakes....

Simply not really possible for 1500 GBP

Best Idea, brake upgrade, high bosst chips and HID projector headlights...

you'll go faster because you can stop better, you'll have almost 280 BHP and you'll be bale to see at night..... acheivable for 1500 quid, with a little change to sort out your suspension bushes and top mounts....

Sure other people will give their opinions too....

              It is possible actually...

K26/K27 hybrid turbo 400-600 EUR used.
RS2 replica exhaust manifold - 250 EUR from ebay.
Injectors - 360-500cc, you can find used for 100-200 EUR
Fuel pump (not required, but recommended) - Can use 50 EUR denso pump from ebay.
              Mapping 300 EUR...

This is a total of 1400 EUR (1200 gbp), but it won't quite get you to 400hp.
You will need downpipe + intercooler, but if you can DIY, it will fit the budget.

              So yes, it is possible...

with my experience , first I will prepare engine, that can easy handle with 400+hp, and then buy parts for more power.

first take engine out, change bearings, rebuilt engine head, new seals, sinter clutch and what is more important is H-profile connecting rod... you will spend 1000 euro on that . but now you are prepare for 600+hp.

                this is a good start...

than I will do the ECU swap from 3b too aby.. than is time for bigger turbo,ex manifold,IC,injectors.. bla bla bla..

lot of people go in wrong direction in tuning world... each mistake cost a lot of money. be smart..

if you go in tuning your engine.. first find better brakes - THIS IS EXCELLENT START...

                good luck

                Igor

You don't need stronger rods for 400-450hp engine.
It is just an insurance against incompetent tuning, not a requirement.

Engine should be in good order though, and I agree with converting to AAN/ABY ignition.

I’m too buying parts to boost the power on my 3B engined type 85 90 quattro, So far I've got:

314mm discs with Brembo 4 pots
Full S2 running gear inc suspension, wish bones, gearbox and diff,
                    Bosch 044 fuel pump
                    RS2 IC
                    RS2 IM

Still to buy are injectors, rods, turbo of some sort prob GT35, clutch. I've also seen a few converting 3B's over to ABY ignition is this necessary to achieve 400+ bhp or is this done for the ease of mapping the ABY ignition and future reliability?

better option on aby ECU is that overboost funktion , have 5 ignition coils (better spark) , and have NO misfires , if have than something is wrong, misfires on 3b are normal thing. ABY mapping are easier...

aby sistem are 50% better than 3B in every case.

in one second things can go wrong, and your stock engine will be past. don't wait that wrong second.

do the rod conversation, this is safe way..

                          400 bhp Options

My 3b just purchased and as its my first S2 so still learning (if questions seem daft)

It's been decatted and is boosting at 1.5Bar, told its chipped also but not sure what.

My Brakes are already upgraded, just need to collect some bits first.
