Overboosting - the cure
I think I may finally have found my big air leak.
I was changing the PCV hoses and pressure regulator and when I fired her up to make sure everything was running I noticed the wiring loom behind the manifold moved when I revved her.
Sure enough there was a lovely blowing and sucking effect coming from the back of the manifold. A bit of feeling around and I found that the hose from the boost tube to the throttle body was folded into the throttle body opening right round the back.
After dismantling it, it looks as though the hose was never fitted right and the jubilee clip was wonky. I think it has been gradually moving until it popped in. Would explain my gradual loss of power which reached a peak last week.
I've refitted it all properly and sure enough she goes like a rocket. At last, I can appreciate the 'home fries'. Boost still tails off a little so I will need to track down any other little leaks when the rest of the new hoses arrive and I'll be ordering a replacement for the throttle body hose tomorrow as a temporary measure until the samcos arrive.
Now I can find all the Focus TDi's that have been keeping up with me
and show them who's boss
