    Totally depends on the build.

It really depends on what fuel you will be using and the head work etc , if you run on alcohol for instance you could make huge power on standard compression ratio.
It's not really what the maximum would be possible In terms of HP its more about what is advisable for a given set up / desired HP level .
I would say if you plan to go over 500 HP it would be advisable to drop the compression to 8.5/1, but like I said if you run high octane fuel then more HP would not be an issue at standard CR.

tescos 99 or v-power always. i don't really want to muck around with the low down power - the s6 is poo enough as it is. Alcohol is out - I can't be bothered with faffing about pouring JD in to my car instead of myself.

Even worse: only available in Scottish pubs.

I believe when using the right fuel (good RON 98), good coils (e.g. 034MS HO) and spark plugs (Denso irridium) you can run 550HP safely with standard compression like I do.

Jyrki advised me to keep stock CR for my setup (stock head with re-clocked cams) at least, which should be able to reach 530-550HP.

I took a part 29 000 km driven 630hp/790Nm engine a couple of years ago. Stock pistons were in great condition, only a couple of rings had lost their chrome coating a while earlier. Which was the reason I took it a part.

So, +600hp easy with proper setup and pump fuel with stock pistons. And hence stock compression ratio.

Swedes use the Booze and 10-11:1 C/R and make tons of horsies with tons of boost, so just like Chef said, totally depending on Your setup.

Interesting to know, I know a lot of the fords boys are starting to do high compression cossie engines but didn't know of any audi's yet.

Take it the biggest weakness in the engine is the rods? once these are changed anything else done to the engine is a bonus?
