Electric water pump

Hi guys,
My electric water pump keeps on running constant. I have pulled up ECU
fault codes and comes up all Clean. Changed both switches on water jacket
I.e Thermoswitch & thermo sender but still keeps on running. the only way
to switch it off is either removing fuse no: 19 or disconnecting the connection to the electric water pump.
Any suggestions would be appreciated

First of all it has absolutely nothing to do with the ECU.

It's controlled by a relay that sits in the dash relay plate. Brown one, double height.

The relay gets 12v from the temp switch, ground, 12v from ignition switch and has 2 outputs, both ground side, 1 for the pump, 1 for the fan relay.

Take a DMM and measure the relay wires, does the thin red one get 12v always? If yes, the temp switch is in short circuit.

I'd say that probably the relay itself is dead and sends ground to the pump continously. It's one of the brown wires with some other colour stripe.

The pump ground wire could also be grounded somewhere else?

Thanks for the reply. The last time i had a look, i could not see a brown relay
just loads of black ones with three numbers on them ( i hope its not missing)
could you tell me what position it would be at???
Its draining my battery and is me off.

Problem found,
Relay 447 965 571 A. Faulty /burnt out. Diagnosed with Great help from

And it wasn't brown? All that I've seen have been brown.
