Mark Hardy, who done my conversion used the original exhaust side of the turbo and fitted a garrett roller bearing compressor, it was mapped, 1.1bar achieved approx 320 bhp, it is cureently getting all forged pistons, and rods fitted, Mark reckons the boost can be reliabley doubled to 2.2bar and it will achieve approx 450-480bhp. This turbo is totally custom built by mark, so it is tricky to compare, but he said it would achieve similar power to a k27/29 setup but with minimal lag. It is really efficient and smooth and he really impressed me with this setup. I was just gonna go balls out and try to get big power, but this is perfect for what I need, its just a really nice daily driver.
Is it possible S2 Turbo to Hybrid Turbo ?

Not a chance ! There is no way you would get anywhere near 450 HP from the standard k24 7000 hot side , it is just too restrictive for that .Mark Hardy, who done my conversion used the original exhaust side of the turbo and fitted a garrett roller bearing compressor, it was mapped, 1.1bar achieved approx 320 bhp, it is cureently getting all forged pistons, and rods fitted, Mark reckons the boost can be reliabley doubled to 2.2bar and it will achieve approx 450-480bhp. I'm presuming it wasn't the standard turbo then, I was told it was a K26 and assumed that that was a standard unit as it the S2 when i bought it was from a quite oldish fellow who hadn't modified it. full service history and no mention of a turbo. however Mark did say that he replaced the hot side with a refurbished part because of a slight fracture so maybe he changed it. ??? all I know is that it works well.Comment

The thing is you wouldn't want to have a turbo that could push up to 480 HP and have it running 320 , that's just not right by any normal turbo theory , if this was the case you would just have lots of lag for no reason at all . There are turbos capable of ~340 HP with almost no lag / instantaneous spool up such as the GT28RS that you could use for this kind of power level.I'm presuming it wasn't the standard turbo then, I was told it was a K26 and assumed that that was a standard unit as it the S2 when i bought it was from a quite oldish fellow who hadn't modified it. full service history and no mention of a turbo. however Mark did say that he replaced the hot side with a refurbished part because of a slight fracture so maybe he changed it. ??? all I know is that it works well.
Most stock set ups on turbo cars are running ~80 % of what the turbo is capable of so as to give good response and low lag . The standard S2 set up has a bit more head room in it as the stock K24 7000 can be chipped reliably to ~290 HP witch is quite an increase from stock 230 HP when compared to a lot of modern turbo cars .
If your mate has used a K26 hot side then this high output seems more plausible given the right compressor, but you will forgive me if I remain sceptical for now .
You also say that he has used a Garrett roller bearing compressor , could it be that your friend has just bolted a complete Garrett turbo to a k26 turbine housing ?? This has been done many times and is basically a garret turbo in essence .Comment

Sorry about this, the reason why it was limited to 320bhp at 1.1 BAR was because of the con-rods and other limiting factors in the engine not being strong enough. It ran really nice after the conversion, I would say the lag was similar to standard if not slightly improved, but that might just be due to the extra 100bhp that was available. I will contact AutoMark to find out exact specs of the turbo I'm using. I sourced a few parts such as the exhaust manifold and exhaust i got them from a chap called Dave Moses who originally inspired me to get an S2, his was running around 700bhp. it was quite a monster he clocked a 0-60 in 3.4 seconds with me in it; it was for sale for a while. but he was a good source for parts.
My motor is using an rs2 exhaust manifold, k26 hot side, hybrid with compressor side being a Garrett (unknown housing) 360° thrust bearing upgrade to help deal with running the higher power more reliably. The engine is currently getting a full rebuild at the moment, Scat rods, Je pistons and a bolt load of new ancillaries oil cooler, injectors, and a larger intercooler setup. I'll keep you updated on specs and power in the near future. I am thinking of using my S2 as a Sport Quattro donor at the moment due to the fact everything is stripped and is really a perfect time to do it. I am still researching if it would be feasible though as I would have to use the full floor pan of the S2 and fabricate the shell around it.Comment

330 hp ???? its very possible i have 293hp and 450 nm par with a stock turbo , and i have the dyno graphic and rocco was there with me , so its very possible that 330 hp whit a repro and an hybrid k24 7000. in my opinion of course.audi s2 aby red 1993 powreded by prjComment

Read previous posts! 480 HP was quoted as possible with this turbo .

The RS2 turbo will push nearly 2 bar mid range and ~1.4 red line at 390 HP with standard rods pistons etc.Sorry about this, the reason why it was limited to 320bhp at 1.1 BAR was because of the con-rods and other limiting factors in the engine not being strong enough. The standard S2 chipped is running 1.4 bar mid range and ~1 bar red line @~ 285 HPComment

i was pushing my old k24 7000 to 1.7bar in mid range and 2.bar too but with harder wastegate spring with any problems never.
a very nice kick in our backs¡
and after uninstall it for the RS2 turbo swap it was in perfect shape¡¡

I'm not saying you cant make a k24 7000 run 2 bar mid range but what is the point as beyond 1.5 bar all you are doing is heating the air up ! Your intercooler would be heat soaked in 30 seconds and then your ecu would just retard the timing to cope , you would end up with less power than if it was set at 1.5 bar , pointless !
I have seen people make silly boost on turbos that was way beyond there efficiency and on the dyno it shows, first pull is X HP then 2nd pull is less and 3 rd even less still . Like I said pointless , you get minute of fast on the road then it is much slower as the intercooler is cooked and putting a bigger intercooler doesn't help either it just gives you a few more seconds before it is overcome by heat.Comment
