Effect of to much or to little cr on rs2 setup

What are the addvantages or disadvantages of to much compression on an rs2 spec car I have heard of some people using two head gaskets in order to reach higher boost level.at what point, ie at what cr would you consider this.

the more widely used method is to machine a pocket in the top of the pistons, it isn't neccessary to drop the CR until you're running big power i.e. 450+ though

or just get a compression dropping head gasget from 034 which is what i'm doing, that way you get the lower cr so you can run more timing (afaik) but get the advantages of not taking anything off the piston.

the compression reducing head gasket only has one more steel layer to it. I'm pretty sure the composite layer is the same thickness. you'll only be looking at a few cc's worth of reduction per cylinder, it's abit hit and miss.

If you where getting it done properly you would measure the volume of each combustion chamber, which is likely to vary a small amount, and compensate for this by machining the appropriate amount off the top of the piston, so all the ratios are consistent. Obviously you would work out exactly what compression ratio is needed 8:1 , 8.5:1 etc rather than just "lowering" it.

thats when it gets expensive though
