If you are after 270-280 and the car is in good running condition then get it chipped
Hoffer76, S2central, MRC etc (in price order AFAIK)
I think hoffer's 3b chip is meant to make 285, Rusty has managed to get just under 300 with a S2 central (homefry) chipped aby with a host of supporting mods.
After that the next stage for me would be to RS2 spec the car and shoot for 380ish, you could do this in stages, the first set of mods (3" downpipe, rs2 ex manifold, uprated intercooler etc) would compliment the chip with turbo/injectors/remap, rods etc last.
Definitely upgrade the brakes, a chipped 3b can overpower stock brakes in a few minutes of enthusiastic driving.
Obviously upping the power is going to stress everything else (boost hoses etc) so be prepared to replace components.
