Has anyone welded an adaptor / flange to a turbo or even welded the wastegate shut ?

Would you weld a wastegate shut ?
The only reason I can think is that you are going to fit a turbo with a built in wastegate, but even then why destroy the wastegate by welding it , if you disconnect the pressure line to it it will stay shut anyway or just blank it off.
If you are not fitting a turbo with a built in wastegate then welding it shut or making it stay shut by any means is just going to make the turbo keep accelerating until it or your engine is destroyed . -
Unless you are able to match the type of steel the housing and the new flange are made of and then the filler rod it wont last long. Even then you will have to pre heat the material, allow for a root gap and 'V' the joint prior to welding, for best results. Post welding and allowing to cool you should treat it with cryogenics to releave the stress of the joint.Probably the longet S2 project in history EVER!

Some pics from the world wide web... It's funny how you can weld and fit cast iron with stainless steel.

Have you tried this turbo on the car yet, any problems with it ? Also how did they weld it and what was used ?
I'm in a situation where i've a new turbo ideal for my car but it has an internal wastegate and the flange is all wrong making it very heavy.Comment

Your have to ask Comp Turbo on how they welded it. But no problems at all.
The Flange is pretty large to 3.5" and the turbo absolutely

Reply i got -Place part with V-band flange in oven up to 500 Degrees F remove part from oven. Use Tig welder and 309L stainless rod. 309L Rod is specially made to weld Cast iron to stainless steel.
Weld each corner of part in 1’’ length bead. Then weld completely around.Comment
