Air con clutch / Power steering pump

Hi, after a bit of advice. I have just stripped the cambelt off my RS2 to check the crank sprocket.

Its OK, however the air con clutch is noisy / rusty and the power steering pump is stiff in the same place each rotation and has a 'lot' of end float.

Has anyone had these problems before and what are my options?

Any advise welcome, except bin the aircon !! ( I wish to keep the air con working )

    Cheers

Anyone know if you can change just the air con clutch pulley, and if so where i can get one from?

Is the power steering pump meant to rotate smoothly with no tight spots?. How much end play is OK? If so, can anyone recommend a supplier or reconditioner?

    Cheers

Yes, you can just replace the compressor clutch pulley. You either find one of the same diameter from another car - which isn't as easy as it might seem as many cars had gone over from a vee belt drive to a multirib one or find someone who'll sell you one. There's a sticky posted on here of a compressor recon company (in B'ham??) who might be able to help you.

IIRC the PS pump does feel tight at spots as you bring it up to the compression point but that doesn't mean yours isnt sticking abnormally. You can shim the endfloat, there's a post on here about it.

        Thanks for the reply johne.

i had already used the search and found nothing, however because you said it was there I spent ages looking and eventually found the info

Going the try and get a clutch from this spot in Brum, and rebuild the p/s pump myself.

        Thanks again
