@Vas - this is with the RS2. It rarely sees the fuel light either; I'm usually putting 40-50l in at that. Computer average stays around 21mpg. Bearing in mind, at present the old girl is spending most of the time betwen my house and the station 5 miles away!
The S2 Avant was pretty good as well, about 280 to a tank on average with mixed driving (comp on 23-25mpg)
Still maintiain my old 3B (pre-GT3071) was the most frugal ever, saw 400 miles to the tank on a long well-behaved stint (Ring trip, along time ago!) and even driving it enthusiastially yieded 320+ miles to a tank... 85p/l for Tesco 99 as well those were the days
Not covering as many miles now, so in reality fuel costs are about the same albeit on 7k a year instead of 12... I have stopped caring now, just brim it each time and forget about it or I end up agonising over the cost and driving like a grandma; that said I will be back in the TDi to the station each day as soon as I can keep the damn intake hose to stay attached
