    VAGCom logging measurements

Did some logs earlier but couldn't see anything that looked like boost pressure. Is it on there and can I measure / log it?

Finally did some IAT logs, it's 8degC outside though so might not be too useful. Car was going like stink though, then I noticed that it was 1020mBar outside

There is no facility to measure boost unfortunately.

What do your Intake temp numbers look like? Here are mine...

    Test 1: Motorway driving

Average temp calculated from 30 Minutes of private test track cruising ~85mph, Peak temps measured from private toll booth flat from 2500-6500rpms in 3rd and 4th Gear.

    Run 1: 15 degrees ambient

    17.8 average during steady cruise
21.7 peak temp during WOT run

    Run 2: 17 degrees ambient

    19.5 average during steady cruise
23.1 peak temp during WOT run

    Run 3: 20 degrees ambient

    23.5 average during steady cruise
25.9 peak temp during WOT run

So in short, motorway driving averages 2-3 degrees above ambient temp, flat out blasts down motorway slip roads averages 6 degrees above ambient temp.

Overall i am happy with the results, all three tests were different days but the runs were as identical as i can get. And most important the data seems consistent.

I was going to fit the RS2 intercooler and do the test again but after seeing those results i dont think there is any point. Be curious to see what data you collected

You can't measure boost with VAG-COM.
But there is SLC DIY which I reviewed some time ago, and I wrote a driver for it, so that it's possible to have values from vag-com on the same graph.

Well, sitting still to setup the computer and then at a junction, before gunning it, then a set of traffic lights, WOT in 2nd again, then turn around, wait, WOT 2nd again isn't the best of ways to test but I had a high and low of 28 and 18.2 with an average of 23.4. When mocing things started to get much cooler but it wasn't the best test. I'll need to do some motorway runs when it has some petrol in it fo such things

Shame that you can't measure boost pressure, seems a bit mad that. Also, the time stamps are just over 1s apart, can that be reduced to a nice 5 or 10 Hz or is that all a bit new skool?

Cheers Dimitri, have you got a link to some information on that? I also have a GPS logger than could be made to work, would be grand to put it all together but I'm no programmer...

A couple of things that I measured -

            1. I'm only seeing 97.3% throttle angle, is this an issue?

            2. Timing peak measurement was 41.3 BTDC.

            3. |Engine load peaked at 129.5%

I have some notes on maximizing sample rates in Newsh's current thread:

Get some FATS numbers when you folks are out logging!

Ah. OK. I was logging everything, hence it bneing a bit toss. Will be more selective next time I go for a play

What is the RPM on a FATS run? Should do a special S2 one as the S4 has a different power delivery. 3k5 to 7k sounds reasonable. It's time For the Advancement of The S2

FATS is 4200 to 6500rpm in 3rd gear.
Go WOT at around 2500rpm or so

There is something called CAPS for the A4 (shorter gear ratio), but I suggest sticking to FATS as the 6 speed S2/RS2 boxes share the 3rd gear ratio with the B5 RS4.
By adding 0.25s to our times, we can compare to vast databases of B5 S4 times, like this: http://nyet.org/fats/?sort=FATS

Did you do any 3rd gear logs?

It's because the fuel chip does not know anything about any boost pressure or even a MAP sensor.
And all the diagnostics routines are in the fuel chip. They do communicate a bit though...

Ignition is spot on, if you just rev it without a gear in.
TPS angle I am not sure about.
Calculated load is completely useless. If you want to know load, you have to look at group 0.

You need a wideband using winlog. Zeitronix, TechEdge or the one I use - SLC DIY.
