Very informative as always, hats off for taking the time to compile in one place. Sticky material IMO.

I've heard of people measuring the clearance of an oil pump to check if it's OK, anybody know how to do this on our pump? I presume you've got to measure the back lash between the 2 cogs?

My oil pump has got to come off soom due to a minor leak and even though it's brand new I want to check it's OK before it goes back on.

I checked the clearance between the casing/backplate on original pump, as well as the backlash. I compared it to a much younger pump and it was about the same IIRC.

There is a procedure written in the manual about checking the 10 valve pumps, but not the 20 valve.

I couldn't find fault with my original pump, so I put it back in. Hopefully it will do another 180k miles ok.
I also checked a pump that had done ~1k miles, and noted the indents on the drive dogs were the same as my older pumps.
