Will immob ECU work with new ignition barrel and keys.

If I get a new ignition barrel and matching keys (with matching transponders) from Audi. Will an immobiser equipped ECU that works with my current immob key and barrel work fine with the new barrel and keys?

... I suppose the question is does the key's transponder talk to the ecu or just the ignition barrel?

(Just had a spare key stolen so I want to get all the locks changed).

The transponders are read by the immo control unit. If you change out the barrel and kesy you will need to recode the immo control unit to the new keys. The engine ECU will be fine as it just takes a signal from the immo control unit.

Ok Thanks, I'll let the stealer do the whole job anyway as it will be under insurance... just wanted to make sure my old stock immob. ecu will still work if I ever need to drop it back in (running a non-immob homefried one). .. I could always put the stock one back in while they're doing the job just to be sure.

Put the stock one back in while they are doing the job.
Then you will have the keys coded to the immo unit correctly.

After they have the coded the keys - swap the ECU.
However, if you ever swap your stock ECU back, you will need to adapt the ECU to the immo unit with vag com... that's pretty easy though, you don't need a code for that, unlike for coding the keys.

Does this mean that my stock one will not work when I first put it back in before taking the car to get the new locks & keys fitted?
and can the ecu / immob adaptation be done with a demo version of VAG COM and chinese cable?

You can PM me if you dont want to put these details on the net..

              Not with demo version.
And you can try - it might work, it might not work.

To adapt ECU, write 0000 into group 0000 of immo.
This still means you need a valid key though, that the immo unit recognizes.
