    Is my crank a gone-er??...

finally managed to split my recently purchased bottom end and was a little surprised by the state of the crank. The bearing diameters are fine as are the journals. It is the rear crank seal end. There appears to be a small groove in the diameter (see picture)

Is my crank a right off or can i have it blended out and have no real worries??...

    any tips/opinions welcome....

    cheers
    Mike

use some 800 grit wet and dry paper to clean it up. Then refit new seal about 2 mm further out will then be on a fresh section of cankshaft and still seal perfectly. Thats the only way around it.

or don't pres new seal on old place.. don't push it 100% in , 1mm less and they will not be on old place, after 300k km you will have 2 rings around crank..

It would need to be re hardened as the seal would destroy soft steel
