    Hi

Anyone know about these engines? What goes wrong??? Reliability? On mileage around 150k to 170k.

    Thanks in advance

    Stay away... no... run away.
The camshafts wear out and require replacement, about 3000 euros for that here.
Then, there's the multitude of oil leaks and also the fuel pump, which is another 2000 euros to replace.

Buy a 2.8 gasoline V6, and the running costs + fuel costs will be many times less.
Or you could get a 1.8TQ. Easily chipped to 180-190 bhp, much more economical, but lacks the low-end grunt of the V6 and has the added complexity of the turbo and plumbing.

If you want a powerful diesel, either go for C4 2.5TDI or look towards Volvo's or BMW's.

I had a C4 2.5 tdi quattro great car but Mrs doesn't like them as a car. Big and ugly she says. I knew about pumps being a problem. Thanks for the reply

Also the breather filter between the V gets blocked on these and can cause turbo failure, not one of audis most reliable engines from what i gather. There are generally lots of a4s on ebay breaking because of engine failure, certainly not built to last like the aat/ael
