    V6 AAH Help!!

Hey there folks, I'm currently doing a top end rebuild on my 80 2.8 V6 quattro and am having abit of an issue and could do with some advice if poss...

I'm currently trying to remove both cylinder heads which is proving to be a PITA....The dipstick tube runs through a small hole in the exhaust manifold....I can't workout how to remove the head because the dipstick tube has a 'V' shape bracket on the end of it (which secures the tube to the head) which is about 2cm larger than the hole in the exhaust manifold....so...WTF There is No mention of what you do on 12v.org or other articles...but does IT mention it in the Bentley Manual??

Also the water pipe on the right side of the right cylinder head stops you from being able to withdraw this cylinder head also......this pipe is the one that goes from the thermostat hole to both cylinder heads to which it wraps around the right cylinder head to connect up to the Radiator. Does this pipe mearly pull out from the thermostat hole or is it permantly fixed??

Any advice would be appreciated....It's taken me a couple hours to try and work it out before it got dark.....I should be doing the VSOS right about now..

This will get you started... Note you have 1st generation 'old valvetrain' - this manual extract is actually for 80 Cabrio with AAH engine but its the same donkey.

              Hiya

After removing securing bolts of the dipstick and the heat shields on exhaust manifold lever dipstick from the sump side.HAVE BATTERY DISCONNECTED...as as you wiggle it free it can short out on the starter motor

The water pipe is secured bythe 10mm bolt on the top of the engine V

IF i remember correctly both pipes are secured by 4, 8mm bolts on back of head,
you must pull pipes free backwards to wards firewall........the o rings hold the pipes very tight

twist metal pipes 90 degrees to clear heads as you remove them
There are bits i forgotten(sorry),,,,,,,,,, but as you work it will come clear.

              cheers

1st of four on valvetrain... much of this is about funky VAG tools for doing some jobs with head in situ so you need to just use as a guideline / reference with heads off and normal valve equipment.
