Can't use a 7a on stock pistons as different bore size. got several blocks on the shelf I'm sure one of them is pretty decent. can measure them tomorrow if interested just drop me a pm.

I got a price a month or so ago for oversize pistons for a 20v and it was £1000+ so just as cheap to buy JE ones
      This is true...

I was hoping to rebuild a motor seperately, as i use my avant daily, and then swap the engines over and save my original engine for another project. The whole idea was to keep costs to a minimum and get something quick and reliable.....

I have thought about a few of the options mentioned but once again it is back to costs being the main hurdle....

What is the difference between the ABY and AAN block??....if any....having never had any exposure to the AAN motor....

cheers for all the help folks....

Boring wont alter cr. Its the squish area that needs changing eg. dish the pistons.

Custom pistons is the way to go dude.
Get in it for the long term a rebuild is v.costly any which way.

Your luck seems as good as mine

Personally Acidburn has offered you a block, I'd go that route

Maybe im missing something but another hone + crank polish + bearings + deck the block + main bolts and youre going to use secondhand pistons?
