    E10 Ethanol Fuel causing problems

    Hi All,

I live in Germany and they have just (since Feb 2011) introduced Super E10 fueL with 10% ethanol in it and to make it worse thats all you can buy, Regular with 10% ethanol or super with the same. Every gas station no longer sells the original super/REGULAR fuel.

Anyway since using this in my daily hack (2.0E 8valve 80 coupe 1990) she has been idling really high (1200 - 1300 rpm) and also very lumpy. However when driving normally it seems ok, but slightly lacking in power and economy i would say.

So as ive no way to fix it, i wanted to warm you all to try to aviod if poss the E10 as im hearing bad things about it over here in that engines built before 2007 will not like it!

So i will try to find some solutions.

    Damm governments!

    Cheers
    J

    Ethanol is good

I would have thought you would get better economy and more power - especially with a charged engine. I think Tesco '99 includes ethanol - good octane booster, right?

I'm guessing it will require a remap to run properly on the E10. Prj would be the man to ask.

Some folks are running S2s on E85, so one would presume E10 would be fine when mapped for it. Actually, it may well run better - the ethanol is like running a higher octane petrol.

Post '07 cars were obviously produced with flexible fuel in mind - not something that was foreseen in the 90s.

Really strange that it should make much difference. Only 10% ethanol should not require any remap as Lambda should correct it. I've heard of people running 30% without problems

Yeah, I thought that initially, but obviously sounds that it isn't working properly as it is.

Still, a good tuner will be able to advise either way.

Thanks guys, yeh i think its either a remap, or to be honest i would not dismiss the fact that the car is 20 years old, 250 000 km and is just getting old, could be other small things, HT leads, timing, dirty intake etc etc.....maybe now the nice weather is here i will do some fettling under the bonnet,

              Will let you know.

If the car has O2 feedback, then your idle can not be affected by this, and it's likely just an air leak somewhere.
However, if it doesn't, then all sort of stuff will start to happen...
