7a turbo, been done?

has anyone built a turbo 7a engine.
I ve had no interest when selling my 90 quattro and was wondering about turboing it and keeping it for family days out
I ve an aby exhaust manifold, turbo, wastegate, maf, pipe work and some rs2 injectors knocking around in the garage-would they be of use to start things off?
I know i d need the head gasket done but what else?
or is it better to buy a 3b and sell the 7a?-is wiring more straight forward than the aby?

you can swap parts around to build a turbo car from really any of the 20vt's. 034 sells a bolt on kit and chip.

Mine is! It is running an 034 Ic SEMS but they have chip tunes for the stock system w/MAF. Currently, the highest dyno number I know of for a 7aT with a stock bottom end is 225WHP (~300chp and NO INTERCOOLER!) but a Holset guy on Motorgeek has really strong 7aTs but no dyno runs.

7aT with the 034 kit
7aT with Holset HY35 and slight compression drop.

Dave on the 7a you will need custom pistons to run it as a 3B, and you may aswell have a set of rods while you are at it.

I disagree, my car and the two linked above are doing fine with 7a pistons (2/3 without intercooling!). Like I said, if your tune is sound then the rods are more likely to fail first.

may as well fit a 3b or aby and be done with it, only a thought as i need money to replace my ACE pipes on the Disco first Bry!

yep,on pistonheads now, staffordshire area, doesnt need much other than brakes freeing off, i even have another set, but 4 other cars , 3 kids and girlfriend in hospital with kidney stones= no time to mess with cars at the moment
