Yeah - a nicely refreshed stock turbo with 360 bearing might set you back $300 - which still saves you a boat load of cash that others would be glad to help you spend on stuff you don't need.

Any reputable Borg warner turbo shop will have the parts and experience to do this. The 360 bearing is a more robust / reliable bearing vs normal 270 degree. It's not even a necessity to get the 360 - there are lots o us blowing around on big mileage stock turbos pushing 270-300bhp all day long. You need as much torque as early and wide in the rev band as you can get.

Tell the turbo shop you need to get your K24-7000 refurbished / rebalanced with a 360 bearing if possible.

That shop is pretty well known and they do good work. Definitely not a bad idea to just use your stock setup.

looks like I`ll be picking up a lightly used stock k24 from one of the salespeople @ 034...I`ll still send my old turbo to gpop for a rebuild so I can have 2 turbos ready to swap out if the need comes...thanks a lot for the advice guys...looks like I`ll be staying stock turbo + chip at the moment...

Thats great advice on that. Really nice to see some sound advice that doesnt cost the earth lol.

Im not sure if anyone can help with my problem. Im building an AEB 1.8t engine for my coupe and am wanting to get around 250hp from it. Just like this car i dont want it all at the top of the rev range but a nice build of power and torque. I dont want to stress the engine too much as it will be a daily driver but i do want it to be fun and pull strong.

I am working to a buget although im not sure what that is yet but its not v much

I have looked at various turbo options but im really not sure. I have looked at:

T28 - Can be bought relatively cheep and rebuilt, mapping may be an issue
                  GT2X Eliminator - Expensive
What about these form 034? - CLICK ME T3 60 Trim - Will this be over worked?
                  - CLICK MET3/T04E Hybrid with .58 A/R, 45 trim - Will this be too much?

My trouble is i am new to turbos and dont really know what im looking at. I dont really understand how to read a boost map either.

I am looking for something cost effective that will work with a standard engine. Im not sure what im doing about mapping yet either, this again is not an area of expertise.

I do appreciate that this is prob not the best place to ask as this is a 4 pot but I cant find a good source of info. Any help would be largely appreciated

250hp on a 1.8t should be pretty straight forward...I think the GT28rs (with or without a kit) is the most used option...plenty of chips available to take care of that and it will put you right where you want it...

Just use the k04 stock turbo from the s3 or TT with 224hp.
                      Go Holset or Go RS4

Indeed, K04 is the most cost-effective way here.
You'll need turbo, injectors, MAF, tune.

What about the K04-15, i understand these are a little less capable than the S3/tt Ko4's but with a tune what sort of figures will i be looking at?

@prj - is it just the MAF housing i would need and keep the sensor i have off the AEB?

I don't know too much about AEB.
Will map a couple this summer, will see when the stock MAF maxes out.
