    serious help required

hey everyone! im going crazy in regards to this s2 ive had for over 1 year now.
if anyone can help me it would be much greatly apreciated.
i am haveing a no spark and no injector pulse problem on my 3b motor. i have full fuel pressure at the rail but the injector will not open. i took out the crank sensors and checked the dowel pin at the flywheel and it is still intact although i realized that its not visible and the crank sensor hole at tdc??????????? i had also changed my distributor and alligned the line on the distributor housing with the line on the dis shaft. still nothing! i then tried to see if maybe timings off, so i lined up the marks on the cam/valve cover and crank pully to lower timing belt cover mark both lined up aswell as distributor marks but i noticed the first piston isnt at the top, the 5th was is that ok? please if some1 had this issue b4 please let me know something because im running out of options. i have tried also changing the actual crank sensors and ecu with a known good one a couple weeks ago but i will try again tommorow because when i had tried that b4 i wasnt getting fuel even at the rail untill i changed the fuel pump relay!
any advice would be greatly apreciated! cheers, Anthony

When set at tdc on the cam can you see half of the "0" marker on the flywheel through the inspection hole?

    When did this issue occur?
I take it that car does not even start?
If your crank is not in time with the cam it is possible that it could of snapped the key way off you bottom timing pulley.

#1 (front) cylinder should be at top when TDC marks are lined up. If it is not, as said above, your crank pulley keyway may have snapped and moved relative to the crank. With some luck you may have not damaged anything and a new pulley and belt will be ok, otherwise it is a new set of valves minimum

If it is as above, you will not get spark or fuel due to the Dizzy and Crank pin being out of sync...

No worries, I hope there is no additional damage.

I got mine from HERE and bought an EKAgrip shim to go with it. AFAIK all I5s have the same gear.

No, they don't. There are several different belt tooth patterns. Most of the I5s discussed here will use the 'Supertorque' rounded tooth pulley, but Audi was using a square-tooth belt as late as 85-J-900643 on the ur-quattor MB.

This catches us out sometimes. I have a page up for the MB:

Doesnt sound nice at all. Hope you get it sorted.

Madpugger do you remember what the postage was like from that company? Is it worth putting on a billet crank pulley to stop this happening again?

Postage was reasonable and very quick. As far as I can see it is an OE part but they stock it and as I wanted the shim to go with it, and a bolt (as well as cam pulley and sprocket) I ordered the lot together.

In that the sprocket is not too dear, and this is a 'fairly' common issue I would just change the sprocket on each belt change.

                Nice info Phil
