I know this has been talked about before, and I have done a search. but what I want to hear is from personal exsperiances using the 7a cam with a 3b inlet, as aposed to using both 3b cams, this is with RS2 turbo,EM, injectors,airbox,7a fpr,evo intercooler,3"turbo back exshaust.
What are the pro's and con's of useing the 7a cam,I have one and need to decide whether to use it or not.
From personal experience - with a RS2 turbo you won't notice the difference.
Getting a custom remap will give you much more - meaning - it is no point to try to improve the 3% when the other 97% are left as is and could be improved...
I have had the car remaped by MRC, and it will be tweaked again by them when the new engine is fitted.I just need to make my mind up whether it is with the 7a cam or not.
Wouldn't bother with 7a cams unless you are installing both inlet and exhaust reclocked
Here is a related question: IF you have an RS2 and you change to a 7A (or NM) exhaust cam, do you re-use the RS2 exhaust cam sprocket with its special cam sensor shutter wheel *AND* turn the cam 10 degrees OR do you use an ABY or AAN exhaust cam sprocket and cam sensor shutter wheel and install the cams as per "normal"?

Jamo, forgive my ignorance, but what do you mean by relocked.
I don't know if I will be able to explain it correctly, but I'll try.
Cams have a duration and lift. This depends of the cam itself. Then, each cam makes the valves open or close depending of how are they installed, and that depends of the cam pulley. The stock S2 pulley make the cams open or close in one exact moment. The RS2 cam pulley is different from the S2 one, and this means that the valves open and close at different time, even if the cams would have the same duration and lift as the S2 ones (in fact, the inlet cam is the same in the ABY/ADU but the exhaust one isn't). To get the best from the cams, you can buy an adjustable cam pulley. This allows you to modify the position of the cams, which means you can adjust the moment the cams are going to make the valves open or close. A good tuner would be able to tune the cams for you and let them improve the engine response. But, from what I have read from knowledged people, I think that with a RS2 turbo or smaller, it doesn't compensate the cost and the effort of installing an adjustable pulley and reclocking the cams. And I also don't think that it's worth installing the 7A ones, which, as Jamo has stated, get the best results when reclocked.
Obviously, when reclocking the cams, the tuner has to know what he or she is doing, because bad reclocked cams can't do any good to the engine.
Sorry if I didn't explain it clear enough or if I said something wrong.
Cheers.
I think what Jamo means is use an adjustable chain pulley to change there relation ship to each other, reason being 7A cams are for a NA engine and have more overlap.
Didnt somebody post dyno charts before showing better torque across the rev range using 7A cams? contrary to popular belief that they create more lag.

Running both 7a doesn't give a lot of lag maybe 200rpm I had them in my old 2.2 and it does feel more na off boost but kicks like a mule coming on ask Fat audi 80 hehe
If you clock them like audi cq has posted you won't notice the difference
