    Hesitation on low throttle RS2

I have just bought an RS2. It has a number of relatively minor issues, but the one that is bugging me is a hesitation at low revs and low throttle, so try and accelerate gently from anything around 1500-3000 rpm and it feels like it is missing and being held back. Go hell for leather and it does what it should.

Second problem is a cooling fan that cuts in and almost stalls the engine, then only stays on for about 6 seconds (timed it) before stopping. Whilst it is running the voltmeter drops from 14 to 12 volts.

If anyone has any experience of these problems or suggestions I would be very pleased to hear your thoughts.

The cooling fan sounds like it's doing what mine was doing , this was because the first stage was not working and then it would go straight to high speed 2nd stage and as you say it nearly stalls the engine this is due to the fan suddenly demanding god knows how many amps.
See this thread for causes .

As for the hesitation this could be many things , loose knock sensor or something loose that at those rpm make the same frequency as knock so the ECU then interprets this as knock and retards the ignition. I had this and it was because my alternator was about to fall off.
It could also be the MAF connector a firm favourite for all kids of glitches / hesitation.

        Pull codes off the ECU.
Then erase them, go for a drive, and see which ones re-occur.

Thanks for the replies. I have a maf on order already as a precaution. If I turn on the ac (that doesn't work!) then the fan kicks in on a low speed. If I then let the engine get hot the extra speed doesn't cause any issue. Without the ac on, the fan comes in like a hovercraft at just a shade under 90 degrees.

I was trying to get the codes checked on Friday but the 5051 wouldn't talk to the car for some reason!

Someone must be near you with vagcom that could drop round and check the codes.

With regards to the MAF , its quite often just the connector that needs cleaning rather than it being
dead. You see quite a few people buy these needlessly.

you need to pull the codes before you start spending money otherwise you could spend a small fortune and not fix it.

                Just get a VAG-COM 409 cable off ebay for 5$ and a 2x2 adapter...
Will be the best money you've ever spent

Thanks for the help. I cleaned the maf connector and it really improved the problem. Not gone but much more acceptable. Going to clean other sensors connectors now and see what changes.

Can't persuade the car and Audi diagnostics to talk yet, but trying a second connector soon.
