    New Mfts

Are all the new MFTS that you can buy from different places such as 034, Pete Reeve, GSF etc.. and even the main dealers, all the same make or can they be different brands ?.
I have a new 3 pin one from 034 in my car and it drastically overreads on the temp display. Just driving can give two notches above 90 but when stopping in traffic, can rise to 4 notches over. We have tested the temps against another car that reads 90 spot on using one of these magical infra red or what ever they are temp guns and they are not to different. Just wondering if i have a dodgy sensor and need to change it but don't want another of the same brand if there are different ones.
Alternativeley, does anyone have a good know working 4 pin MFTS that they want to sell?.

    Thanks

At a complete guess - 034 *might* be reselling some cheap chinese made pattern parts - as opposed to sourcing decent ones from europe...
Or then again it could just be bad luck with a bad sensor or bad batch. The part isnt unique to S2/RS2 - it was very common across many Audi models and as such would attract sufficient volumes for bulk manufacture at low cost by the parts industry.

Think it sounds as though it would be better to look for a good working second hand 4 pin item and try that.

        Don't worry about 3pin vs 4pin.

The OE 4 pin was an active device requiring a supply voltage.
This was later replaced by an entirely passive device that is fully compatible but deletes the supply pin requirement... Hence one pin less

I had problems with I assume was a cheaper copy from a factors once in a newer Audi it put the management light on after 1 day, replaced with a genuine item and the problem went away

I would of thought pete reeve or obviously Audi will be a safe bet at least it can go back if fails within the year.

I will send you one chris,pm your address

A point to note(not in chris' case) but if your car came with a 3 pin sensor from new (like both my a6(96) and s6(97)) a 4 pin sensor does not work,i found this out the hard way(my s6 had a 4 pin in it when i got it and i scratched my head for months as to why the coolant temp gauge wouldn't work after trying known good replacements)

Thats a fair point actually... I dont know exactly when the changeover to 3-pin came into effect and whether it affected the S2/RS2 in that way...

So we can safely say that the 3-pin should be compatible with all models and the 4-pin is compatible only with 4-pin wiring.

I can say that my Oct. 92 built 93 S4 came with a 4 pin MFTS. I replaced it in 2003 with a three pin and it was fine. It is not possible to use ETKA to find the break point for 4 pin to 3 pin 034919369C. My friend Kate says she has looked and 034919369C is now shown as the replacement part all the way back to 1985. 369A and 369B are out there but they are entirely different devices than the 369C. There is no 369D (AFAIK) so I have to assume Audi completely replaced the 369C with a new 369C and did not need to do a revision. You cannot buy a 4 pin 369C unless somebody squirelled one away years ago.
