Over this side of the pond, there are examples of Bosch F5DP0R, the factory platinum AAN/ABY/ADU plug, cracking the ceramin, losing tips or simply breaking the top ceramic. The latter is shown in this video by Popdemonic an UrS6 owner who also is a member of this forum (as well as my home quattroworld UrS forum):
Any Examples of Bosch F5DP0R failures?

I've had nothing but problems with the ceramic separating from the metal nuts when running 2bar of boost on a 30r, used to do 1-2 of them a fortnight. So run NGK race plugs since and never had problems with over 30k miles on them.UrS6 Stroker + HTA3586 =

I'll have to dig out the number of the current ones. I will warn you though they were around £140 for a set of 5. However as the Bosch ones cost me that in 3mnths having to keep replacing them and these have lasted 2yrs I can't complain.
I am going to try a different style plug for my stroker build and see how that copes. But they work out around £150-160 for a set. Only reason I'm trying them is because when I was in the US I found a possibly a mis advertised price on amazon. Or maybe they were stock clearing singles. But I managed to pick up 5 plugs for $20.75 including shipping. Could not believe it as in the UK my mate had just paid £32.50+VAT per plug. Someone was looking after me that day!UrS6 Stroker + HTA3586 =

Thanks Dave for posting up here!I have been running new set of F5DP0R for a month and some of them broken causes my car misfiring.
I spent another month to investigate the culprit and who's gonna believe the new spark plugs is prone to be failured within one month.
7 is the total failures for my F5DP0R.I still have 3-4 used F5DP0R's from the 4sets i have been replaced for over few years.I'm going to
use the rest of them and get the iridium spark plugs from NGK's.one of a few I5 from Asia.Comment

strange all these incidents. I have been running the F5DP0R from day 1 on the car, its been 7 years now, only changed them usualy after 6K miles and never had issues with them.
I will be trying out the bosch FR5DTC that efiexpress suggest merely for the better price on them. Marc suggests they are top of the line and half the price.Comment

Pop: I emailed Bosch Canada with a question about these failures. They responded and said they have forwarded the question to Bosch USA. I suspect Bosch USA will respond and say they have forwarded the question to Bosch Germany.

No wonder you haven't had any problems. Changing them every 6K is insane, price wise. Thy should last 30K km at least not 10K km (6k miles).
The ones that Popdemonic had fail recently were only a few months old.RS2'd 93 UrS4 5 spd sedan

sure, but most of the above comments came from a very short usage of the plugs, not because of 30K kms use!
I can say that all of the times i replaced them (by the guidance of my mechanic) the plugs were fine at the time of the replacement, and the 6Kmiles limit was just for extra precaution.Comment

@A80Avant - I think maybe your mechanic was re-using your discarded plugs after 6k... they should be almost like new...
they are supposed to be a long life high performance plug. Maybe the failure issue is a new phenomenon if the factory processes have moved or changed in someway. I've always found them to be a great plug... though never tried them at 2bar and beyond.
Do we know how rare the F5PD0R plug is these days - are they used on any cars in decent volumes ? JUst wondering as low volumes might have instigated a change in manufacturing somehow that has resulted in this potential shortfall in quality...Paul Nugent

That is your assumptions Paul, granted by the fact that there is a lot of corruption going on in Greece, but i can assure you that he does not. I have had back all plugs after each service and i trust his experience. He has a lot of info from EVOs, Subarus,Audis, Porsches running rediculus boost and even an rs2 which ran about 2.7bar at one point for drag racing. He recommended to change on those intervals and believe me the amount of money you spend on these cars, does not get that much influenced when adding another 80quid to those time frames. I could say for example you would spend much more on a brake accumulator replacement (360+vat!!!) than spark plugs at the rate those ******s get damaged, and if it wasnt for Paul(custom autografts) to give a cheap solution, you wouldnt be thinking about 6K plug intervals.
Besides when asking from the engine to produce extreme hp, you want the combustion chamber parts to be at least perfect, which is where the boom will happen if they are not.Comment
