If it doesn't energize, ECU has no engine speed sensor signal...
    Doubt the relay is dead.

This then provides more power to injectors, etc. than just the Holding Relay did. However, the ECU will not actually trigger the injectors or the spark unless it has good signals from both the G4 crank position sender AND the G40 cam position sender.

      Thats what I said

The next step was to swap the sensor positions and swap the cables that should then bring the fuel pump relay in. If the other sensor is ok

I am to swap the cables over and try it from there?

My next question is does anyone have a cam sensor for sale?

Cam sensor is not needed for the ECU to energize the relay.

No not just the cables the positions as well if its the sensor the fault will move

both sensors are the same the one that picks up the pin and the one that picks up flywheel teeth

Is it an ABY or a 3B? as people are talking about the cam position sensor too

I'm fairly sure a faulty cam sensor throws up a fault code in VAG COM.

The suggestion regarding pouring water down the back of the cam sprocket only works IF you have an AAN, ABY or ADU (not 3B) and typically only if the engine is still hot after being shutoff. The water cools the G40 cam sensor and gives it a little more life (but it is still dieing) and you *might* get lucky and get a restart. On a stone cold engine, the water trick won't do anything.

Have you ever stated which engine you have? ABY or 3B?

*IF* you have the ability to blink codes out, the cam sensor blink code is 2113.

So is the car screwed in other places as well then? Or you just generally want to get rid of it?

Have you even connected to the ECU with a 5 dollar vag-com cable? Before deciding on spending ten times or more that for various parts?
Is this really that expensive for you?

Breaking a car because it does not start without even checking for faults = lol.
Replacing hall sensor randomly without diagnosing = lol as well.

You are saying the fuel pump is not energizing with ignition on it is not supposed to. Does it energize when cranking?

*IF* you actually need one, a replacement hall sender can be as little as $13 each plus shipping from BB AutoMacao:

Replacement would be similar to this very detailed AAN replacement procedure:

Several people on this forum bought these HME301 Hall senders in a group buy a while back. *Somebody* might have one available for you? Audi80Avant is relatively close by in Greece (IIRC). He might have a spare one.

But as prj says, you need to *know* that you have a failed G40 hall sender first.

Again, here is some G40 info: http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/22580.phtml

Guys the car is spot on, 300bhp, big AP brakes, full leather RS2 spec interior and SS exhaust. I had a qualified auto electrician diagnos the car for (I wouldn't bin an S2 on the off chance it maybe this maybe that) the relay doesn't energize when cranking, I have changed the crank sensor for a known good one too. The flywheel hasn't lost it's sensor as first thought, I have also tried a different ECU. I will change the cam sensor and probably the POS's too. I have triple checked all of the connectors and I may take the dash back out just in case it is a connection somewhere in there. Other than that what can I do? I have also checked every fuse wire etc etc. It does indicate a small problem as I drove the car home When I put it back together.

The bottom line is there will come a point when I just have to walk away - I cannot afford to start chasing a problem around the engine bay and then the rest of the car!
You might leave the S2 fold every so often - but you'll always come back!
