    Turbo Coolant Return Pipe Leak

    Hiya Fellas,

I have just found the Coolant Leak on my AAN S6 that has been bothering me for months and has been driving my "Sense of Smell" to the brink of destruction!..........and the neighbours think I have an affliction for sniffing Anti-Freeze because of the amount of times the bonnet has been opened etc.

Need advice on how to tackle the "Leak"...............The Coolant Loss is coming from the "Turbo Coolant Return Pipe/Core Plug to Block".

Can't make my mind up if the "Rubber Pipe" part is leaking or the "Core Plug Seal" @ the block.

I presume that it is a Core Plug with a neck attached to it for connecting a pipe from the turbo because I have never seen one before..........but hey.....I wouldn't really be looking in the first place if it wasn't for the coolant loss!!

Do I need to tackle from the top and take the Wastegate, Turbo and Manifold off (and probably the Air Box/MAF)....................or......from underneath and take the Oil Filter Housing, Cooler & Pipes off etc??

    Is this a common failure?

Ta for any advise or tips.

    Cheers

    Dave.

Its easier to do this one from underneath.

You will probably only need to take the bottom part of the oil return hose of, and the water one is on a clip which you clamp with a pait of pliers to release it and pull it off.

That pipe would need to be replaced if leaking because the metal part of the water return is on that too, or a new core plug will be needed.

Ben (S2 Avant) should be able to sort you out with part numbers or Vag Parts.

        HTH,

        Ben
        I just love this forum

Thanks for the replies guys. So the Core Plug has some kind of neck "built in" so that you attach the Coolant Return Turbo Hose/Pipe to?

And the above Part Numbers are common to the S6 AAN/S4 AAN /S2 3B & ABY etc?

        Thanks for any further replies

        Cheers

        Dave

PS - The leak as stopped be taking the S6 to Audi Driver International but the trusty 10 Valve WR quattro will have to do instead

Look forward to meeting as many S2 Forum Members as possible on Saturday

          Yes.

I would not remove anything else. You're able to get to the pipe/hose from underneath the car just fine. Perhaps AAN type boost hoses or the strange boost pipe may need removing.

The place is really tight in aircon S2s but urS4/6 should have plenty of space as all the aux stuff is on the other side of the engine.

            Thanks for the confirmation.

Looks like a job for "Bruised Knuckle Man" then

A quick call to VAG PARTS seems to be the order of the day!

            Cheers
