RS2 Timing belt change - advice

    Hi everybody
I need to change the timing belt of my RS2 and I need a simple advice.

How can I unscrew the main pulley bolt without having the VAG tool to block the pulley?

Is there an alternative method to block it?

    Many thanks!

You may be able to undo it with a BIG air gun, 3/4" drive, but its the tightening up thats the problem.

It needs to be very tight and accurately torqued to avoid failure of the bottom sprocket at a later date.

I tried this way some time ago with my Urquattro but:
      - the air gun I have is not powerful enough
      - using a big torque wrench the engine moves and I cannot unscrew the bolt

I had to buy the VAG tool, but I don't want to waste money because I would use it one time only.....

Vag tool is cheap in comparison to repair damage from a broken bottom pulley.............

Will the VAG tool used for an rs2 work for an s2? if so where would I get one from?

I undid mine by bracing the torque wrench on the floor and turning the engine over on the starter (albeit v.slowly).

Not on an s2, but I've done it by jamming the brakes on (with some sacrificial wheel bolts) using a board wedged between the drivers seat and the pedal and obviously having it in gear - works no problem. If ypu can't move the bolt, a trolley jack under a 3/4 breaker bar will budge it just be carefull with your bumper.

So is there no tool for the 3b? Or if someone has picture+dimensions of a homemade one that would be great.
