    Oil temps

Just wondering what oil temps peoples cars reach ( in modified guise). Giving mine a bit of stick yesterday with 5 on board and sticking to 85mph afterwards on Motorway noticed I was holding a steady 110degrees. Didn't drop below 100 until after I had come off the motorway, and this is with a larger oil cooler too? Or is the oil temp measured before it goes through the cooler...

The measurement is on the oil pump and such it is the temp the oil has when it is sucked and pumped through the engine.

Ah, so would actually be a lot lower reaching engine bearings after travelling through the oil cooler.

no, its measureing the temp as it passes through the pump, on its way to the main gallery, so this is the temperature that the bearings etc will see

In which case I would have expected the temp to have been lower with the size of cooler unless the thermostat in the filter housing is sticking. I was expecting it be be no higher than 95degrees not on its way past 110

check the oilfilter housing and it's spring if they are ok or stuck close. What was the outside temp? I almost never got 110 even with the car fully loaded.

                What turbo do you have?
                What oil do you run?
What was the outside temp that day?
How long are you with full throttle and 5 people in?

i have noticed that with more load on the car=load on the engine the temps seem to rise sooner.

its normal temprature in a engine; straight beside the bearings, the oilfilm may be as high as 300 degrees...but the oil take this avay.... the water may be as high as 90-105 degres, but it will not boil,if you does have antifreese in..

standard turbo running at 1.45 bar.
                    Silkolene Pro-s 10W50
                    Outside temp about 18degrees
Numerous bursts from 70-100 and back to steady 80 in 6th passing traffic on Motorway.

Thinking that something sticking in the filter housing because as soon as I slowed to come off Motorway I noticed temp had quickly come down to 90 degrees

i would say it is normal. maybe a bit high but normal. The car was heavy so the engine load was also greater.
