    Universal Lambda Sensor question

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1x-TOP-QUALITY...item1c0fc849fd

Just wondering if anyone has tried the above sensor in an S2, or has any experience on if they are any good or not.

Also are they easy enough to fit (I am not too bad with a soldering iron) ?

    Thanks.

    G39 O2 (Lambda) sensor info

Real three wire G39 O2 (Lambda) Sensors from Bosch aren't *that* expensive considering how long they usually last. Here is some G39 info with some alternative Bosch PNs to chase:

Yup, I have used one of those. Works great and soldering the wires is a snap.

Cheers for the info fellas, I just need to confirm it is the Lambda.

I am having poor cold idling, which improves once the engine is warm.

I followed another thread detailing the same problem which ended up with the Lambda being the culprit.

I have therefore removed the wires to the Lambda, and need to wait till tomorrow when the car is cold. I understand that it should run better on no Lambda signal, instead of a defective signal.

Hook up Vagcom and check the Lambda signal, or check it with a multimeter

i have strange issue with lambda.
with lamda conected, car have rich mixture and unstable idle . they constantly go from 800-1100rpm.
when i disconect lambda. everything is fine. but check is on.

            is that 100% lambda problem?
            tnx

              I would say so.

Mine was much better when I started the car from cold, with the sensor disconnected. So a replacement for my car is next on the list of things to do.

Thanks to the forum , without it I would still be trying to sort the problem.

Got myself a cheap lambda of the bay which I plan to fit this weekend.

Can someone confirm if it matters which way round the white 2 white wires are connected?

I have got a three wire replacement, which has one black and two white wires. As both white wires are exactly the same, I assume it doesnt matter.

I think that's for the heating of your lambda. So no problem.
I'm not sure it's your lambda. Could be your MAF too.

Thanks for the wiring info. If I still have problems once the new Lambda is fitted, I can check on the MAF.

I managed to get the old Lambda out this afternoon. Took some doing though, had to take the airbox out to get the access needed. Then discovered the old Lambda totally stuck tight. I tried to get it out with a sensor socket, but this didnt work. It looked like it was going to slip, and knacker the nut.

After much coffee drinking, and pondering I knew what had to be done. It was time for the most dangerous, and manly tool that I own.

                    The angle grinder.

My cunning plan was to shorten the old sensor so I could get a decent socket over it, and a breaker bar. Thankfully it went to plan and the old sensor was removed.

Unfortunatley rain stopped play, so will have to finish the job another time.

The photo shows what a mess I made of the old Lambda. The new one better work, as there is no going back now. :mischeif:

Finally got the new Lambda soldered to the wiring cut off the original Bosch sensor, and fitted to the car.

Getting the airbox back in was a pain in the ar*e, everytime I got close to it fitting, I knocked one of the rubber grommets out of place. Then had to take the airbox out again to reinstall them. Anyway,s managed it eventually, and have been out in the car a few times since.

Wow, it has never felt and sounded so healthy.

It idle's really well, and is willing to accelerate that much more cleanly than it used to. I guess the old sensor had been gradually getting worse for some time, but the new one has really transformed the car. Happy days.

It was well worth a bit of time, effort, and a cheap ebay sensor.

Good to hear. These sensors work great and cost next to nothing.
