This is what a broken exhaust valve does to internals... Now it´s time for a engine rebuild. Could anyone tell where to find oversized pistons with normal compression ratio?

That´s right. I was going about 40km/h and 2000rpm when it broke.

the same happened to my friend in his VW when he was idling at a light...and he wasn't driving hard at all that day.

Nightmare. You can order up over size stock pistons from any piston maker. Mahle should be able to help. Has it damaged the bore then?? Or do you just want to re bore anyway?

Wrong sized small bushes if I remember correctly.

OMG - what a nightmare - I would be almost driven to tears if that was my engine.

Anybody know the root cause of these valves just self destructing - did the collets let go or what ?

Heat i think Paul. Running too lean. I had the exhaust valves burn out on mine with it running lean for a few months. It was mapped with a boost leak, then i cured the leak and it was running too hot Never had the valve drop off like that tho thank god

Anything a newbie like me can do to prevent such a disaster? if that happened to me i would have to scrap/sell the car
