    044 fuel pump instalation question.

Right, I've used the search function and can't find a satisfactory answer regarding the pressure damper located on top of the original fuel pump. Is it required when fitting a 044 pump to a 3B?

IIRC - the pressure damper is only relevant to old school KE-Jetronic installations... you just use the cap dome nut on RR, 3B, AAN, ABY, ADU !

Yep, space is quite tight once an 044 is instaled, the damper may well touch the access panel on top of the tank. I'd like to know why it's there though, later Coupes don't seen to have them.

My 1990 3B had the damper. However the pump may have been replaced as it has the same part number as a C3 100 Avant turbo pump I have knocking round.

because 'later coupes' dont have K-Jetronic... they all ECU controlled (of various sorts)

Errr, no offence Paul, but I'm sure all 3B's are Motronic as opposed to K-jet. Though like I said I don't know if the pump is original.

no offence taken... but I am 99% sure on the pressure damper thing... parts system only called it up on K-Jetronic from memory - will have to look at it again in case my memory is munged.

I guess its just a hangover from the earlier cars, 7As have these dampers too and are not K-jet.

Out of interest Kit, was the 044 a straight fit in the basket as it is with the 7As or did you need to buy the bigger basket?

It was a straight fit mate. To confuse matters I had a look in the tank of my 1992 NG engine Coupe which is K-jet, no damper. Guess it must be a year thing.

I guess the early S2s shared the basket & hose assembly with the other models

LOL - another theory shot down in flames then - heheh... damned Audi confusion. Maybe its something they phased out over time then... or the older K-Jet cars where more sensitive to something that required the damper in place. Answers on a postcard to S2central.net
