I hava opened my engine, because, one rod beraing sad goodbye and now I dont know what to think, 3rd rod bearing is completley gone, and all others including main bearings are terible, as you can see on pictures. What went wrong?
crank is very beaten on 3rd rod, and other places has groves in
oil pressure was always ok, only at the end when bearing started to do nosies it for a moment flashed light in cluster, but then it was again ok, i stoped imideatly
what happen with this bearing in EX Yugoslavia ?
I have the same problem with one s4 , but in my case it was engine without oil...
1.bearing gone (disaper) just like your 3. bearing.
1. piston is dead ,crankshaft is dead ,connecting rod , and turbo too.
the car was losing oil on engine oil pressure sensor (small one) .
Big end bearings show indication of detonation and oil starvation. What oil where you running? This is the sort of thing I see when oil is too thick causing high pressure and no flow to help keep the bearing cool.
Only other reason for such severe breakdown on all bearings is overfueling, fuel gets in the oil and acts like an abrasive.
^^^ Look at the pitting marks in the big end bearings. This happens from det. Remember Detonation is different from pre ignition. Pre ignition is where your pistons usually melt first. Det is where the bearings break down.
Yes i know the difference in pre ignition & det. dude, but that is still oil starvation in my book.
@Nace, there are plenty of guides online to help you diagnose bearing failure & written by bearing manufacturers, surely that can't be disputed. Check this out:-
Interestingly you mentioned you were running a chipped RS2 setup, this assumingly is with the stock motronic setup? Do you still have knock sensing capability? Its just this does NOT look like det.

i would have the oilpressure controlled( too low??)
and highspeed detonation are very commen... if the low volt at the generator, and bad spark; you WILL see this...
or if you does have low fuelpressure( is it correcl pressure??) att high rpm, you will see this...
i think in this spec ; the cranc are gone too...
I think you'll find RWD could have written that book on bearing failure with his experience.
It looks like oil starvation yes, but the bearings are heavily pitted very much like those where there's been pressure points (check the shifted cap pics in the link - looks similar). I think you'll find if you read JP's post, he is referring to detination as a possible cause of the pitting.
The doc in the link suggests surface fatigue as a result of incorrect alignment, overloading e.g. detonation.
what does this detonation mean? can someone explain me please
yes i have motornic chip from hoffer and turbo also
oilpressure was always same acroding to original gauge
i have sparks in for 2.000km and new altenator-checked
what is correct fuel presure?, wouldn't engine "cut off" if there would be not enough fuel?
the engine will NOT cut off if the turbopressure goes hi than normal, and the fuelinjektors, and old fuelpump will not give MORE fuel in the syl; and hispeed detonations, by the hi rpm, you will not hear this... some time you will take out the bearings, and sometime you will take out the pistons( meltdown) please check out the "land" the ring land in the pistons, and se how this are goin;( picks please look for cracks from the outcut for the oilsquirters to the oilring.....how hi volt at the battery?? least 14,4 with fan an lights on...
