    Help engine won't start

    Hi folks,

Started car yesterday morning and went to work (15 min drive) after realising that i had not locked my door i returned home (engine had been switched off no more than 10 mins). After locking car and getting back into car (5min) engine would not start. I can hear the fuel pump primeing itself but the ignition itself is completely dead, no sound whatsoever. Charged battery for 2 hours just incase but still no joy.
    Any ideas,,,

    <facepalm>

1 - you are not hearing the fuel pump - its the water pump - but ignore that for now...

2 - if the engine isnt turning over then either the ignition switch is dead or the security system is interfering with things... sounds silly but try locking and unlocking the car again - with key or remote as you normally do it.

      Help

Cheers i'll try that once i get home from work and if thats all it is i'll feel like a right muppet.... I never use the remote but i may have pressed it whilst taking the key from the ignition.
Incidentally what is the switch at the side of the factory fitted alarm/immob fob.
I've noticed that it can be switched up or down.

        Help

        Hi folks,

Tried arming/ locking/unlocking the car several times and still no joy. Any other ideas as the car is parked right in the middle of my drive allowing no other cars to park...

To clarify... Is it turning over when you try to start it or is there a clicking noise when you turn key to the crank position ?

              help

No clicking noise and it's not turning over either, It's completely dead. Ignition lights come on and all electrics work ok, battery has been charged so plenty of life. One minute it's ok 1 minute later it's dead.....

              cheers

I had this on one of my s2s right after the MOT, I went to pick it up and it wouldn't start.

Ended up having to hot-wire it for a week until the new Ignition barrel arrived.

Could be the barrel but also trying to establish some security things privately. ;-)
