    Ticking v6

    Evening all,

My 80 v6 has started to make an awful ticking from the back of the passenger side cylinder head area. It's a 2.6 abc engine with just shy of 200 thousand miles on the clock.

It recently had an oil and filter change using the same filter and oil I always use. Oil pressure was all good.

When the ticking started on the way home from it work it reduced the power of the car. I was rolling along with the traffic when the noise started so not revving the engine but it felt like the handbrake had come on.

I've had the sump off to check the oil pump was clear and it was, had the rocker cover off to check for a stuck tappet but they all moved ok, replaced the pressure valve in the cylinder head and run an oil flush through then new oil and filter. No change, still ticking

Does anybody have any ideas as to what could be causing the ticking ? Any previous experience with similar on the v6 ?

I recently had the power loss and ticking on my '95 ABC coupe.
I also suspected sticking engine parts etc and all things nasty and dear.
It was a loose spark plug and the ticking was obviously ignition firing out of the plug well
Sometimes the simple things, worth a peep
      Good luck

        Good suggestions guys

I'm going out the back to check both of those things right now.

        I will update later.

        Thanks

Checked both things mentioned but they are ok.

I got a wee video that might help.

Have you def tried all 6 plugs are not loose, my 2.8 V6 cq developed a similar ticking last month I couldnt work out what it was either. I was reversing onto my drive and suddenly phhhut phhuut phhuutt and rev's died, I seriously thought the engine had blown.

Once the rain had stopped (I was fearing the worse at this stage and had already been online looking for replacement blocks) I took engine cover off and could clearly see one of the sparkplugs had blown out. Luckily thread was ok so just screwed it back in and tightened up.

What about a exhaust manifold to head leak? Or crack in manifold?

Have you tried stuffing something into the exhaust to increase pressure and see if the noise changes?

It does sounds like a proper mechanical noise, but random bits of cars can make crazy noises.
