Who quoted you for that? I would be cautious about who to use as anybody can wave a grinding tool about, there is a difference between porting and making things look smooth and shiney. And lets face it there are a lot of cowboys in this country.

I had my 7A head done here by Westward Engineering, i think he only charged me half that. He has lots of experience with working on Golf 16v heads which isnt all that different, and was good enough for me. Certainly made it run much smoother and had better torque in the midrange.

For the RS2 engine build i wanted it done by someone with more experience, hence was done in the UK. I also went down the road of the oversize valves and multiangle seat cutting, in heindsight it was probobly an over expensive extravaganse.

As above, talk to JP first and get a better idea of how far you want to go with it.

I have used a chap called Nick Waples and you won't get far on that sort of money. His work is outstanding.

That said a built vauxhall head on solids and proper valves is about £2500 and the parts alone soon add up.

You need to use someone with a lot of experience and understanding and from what I've seen on here Jp is the man to speak to.

Looking back through your quote I don't think 800 euros is a bad price for that work, just depends on what he knows about the i5
