just finished my big turbo build on my urs4, finished the last touches today, and go to start it and the starter is clicky, not cranking, so i thought it was the battery threw a new battery in there and it keep clicking, so im assuming its a faulty starter, (anyone know the signs of a faulty starter), or know what this could possibly lead to, i checked the grounds twice and there all connected, the starter would be my last guess let me know what you guys think thats!
engine finished wont start :/

I had this, you need to really check you connections! These the steps I went through:
Is the starter OK? - connect a +ve jumper from your spare battery to the +ve feed thread on the starter motor, and -ve to the chassis. If it cranks, the starter is good.
Is the earth OK? Assuming it starts with a direct power feed, move the earth point for the -ve jumper cable from the chassis to the engine block to test your earth strap. If it cranks, earth is good.
I first checked voltage at the starter - turn the key, get a multimeter under the car and see what voltage you've got. I got 12v which means the feed is good. However if someone turned the key to crank, it dropped to 0v.
Finally - voltage dropping = resistance, i took off the spade connector and nut on the starter, sanded them down, cleaned the contact point on the back of the starter, reinstalled. That solved it for me, fired first time, couldn't believe it was something so simple.
Good luckAUDI - saving Dad's from minivans since 1994

i had this on a Arnage T that came back from Bentley Manchester (spits*) after an engine out job under warrenty
Earth Strap from body to engine/gearbox was loose and incorrectly mounted to a plastic trim stud with no attempt to remove underseal :corey:
clicky clicky starter, and intermitant starting from when it was dropped off.
as ross said, you can use jump leads to rule out a dodgy earth or power cable

dont mean to sound stupid
but have you checked that the engine turns over (by hand) now its in the car with gearbox connected etc?
seen people go round and round in circles changing everything and the engine has been locked from gearbox issues e.g forgot to put spacer in etc.
just a thought...........
