    OBD checker- engine Diagnostics

A couple of members asked me about a simple VAG OBD reader and since i didnt have the car with me i promiced to put up a link of the one i use.

    its this one:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OBD2-Scann...item3368e30a9b

it reads codes and gives the code description as well. Has worked on my car nicely and reads everything that can be read.

Hope it helps you guys out!

Okay, I am confused. Your link is to an OBD2 reader. Our 20vt engines (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) are NOT OBD2 and the connector is NOT OBD2 (unless you have a later model, e.g. 97 UrS6, that has a connector that looks like an OBD2 but is just OBD1).

    Looks like this:

    But is really this:

    94 UrS4 V8 6 spd manual avant

      I am confused by your confusion - What makes you think somebody moved 12V, 0V, K & L pins from OBD-1 to OBD-2 ?
OBD2 is a superset with much wider, general purpose - those pins didnt move - least not for VW/Audi family.

all you need for that to work with our engines is the OBD to 2 pin adaptor like this:

        http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-2x2-O...item336a3d5ef3

many people use this successfully! (me included)

I've got a few different ones in my various cars:

            http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Audi-Se...item4aa7e42688

            http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAG-CAN-BU...item335e93c21f

I'd recommend the second one. More advanced/easier to use, and it is noggy blue

Very nice to be able to check fault codes, etc out on the road, as I don't bring my laptop/vagcom everywhere.

Confusion = because A80Avant didn't mention the need for the adapter in the initial post. He has mentioned now, however.
