alright gary, did you check the entire timing belt setup?cant remember where you were upto with this but i had this exact issue with my s6(think i told you) turned out the crank pulley bolt had come slightly loose (around castle coombe) and had worn the woodruff key away by 0.3mm which meant the cps and crank sensors were not happy, reducing boost, misfiring and generally running like a sack of *****

mmm yeah - sounds a worry - CMP and CPS signals may not be lining up properly.

      http://www.s2central.net/aby_ecu_codes.html - search for 00515

Check that crank ref pin is in good shape too... best advice is to thoroughly check crank & camshaft pulleys carefully as well as belt tensioner... annoying I know, but not as annoying if valves meet pistons at high speed if it goes properly bad.

The timing marks all line up. The belt was a bit loose so i tightened it up same fault. I also had a lad come out and he checked the timing on a lap top with a device (cila scope maybe) he attached to the Cam sensor and crank sensor and even through the miss the Graphs on the lap top did not alter at all .

I think i have been putting of the inevitable off and trying the easiest thing's first. As i don't trust myself doing the belt

No i stripped the front end and checked the timing marks and tension on the belt. There did not seem to any play on the crank pulley. Having said that if yours only had 1.3mm of play on it i would not have been able to see such a small amount of play on it.
