7A High Oil Pressure ( > 5 bar) & Dashboard Light After Rebuild

    Hello all,

First start up of my engine after a prolonged down time + slight rebuild resulted in a strange noise (a tapping, or almost a pinging noise) and high oil pressure on gauge (past 5 bar) with the blinking/beeping red oil light on the dash. Car laboured to start up and the idle was low/rough.

Oil gauge only pegs far right after the car starts up, not when the key is on and motor not running.

    Quick summary of work done:

    - OEM (re-manufactured) power steering rack (edit: rack, not pump!)
    - OEM crank pulley cog & harmonic balancer
    - OEM flywheel and clutch bolts
    - OEM gaskets (head/valve cover/exhaust/rear main seal)
    - OEM distributor rotor & cap
    - 034 spark plug wires
    - 034 timing belt kit w/ water pump & thermostat
    - 034 silicon rad hoses & aux. rad delete
    - 034 street density motor & trans mounts
    - 034 snub mount & bracket
    - 034 phenolic IM spacer & gaskets
    - 034 7A EFI upgrade kit w/ resistors
    - ARP headstuds

I didn't touch the oil pump at all, other that to remove the oil temp sensor wire.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. My best guesses so far would be: faulty oil pump, backwards/stuck oil pressure relief valve, crossed connections at the oil pressure sensor, faulty oil pressure sensor.

Here's a quick list of links I've found so far on my search for possible solutions:

OK here is my problem, just had to rebuild engine on my 1990 CQ, and pulled out oil pressure relief valve and reinstallled. Now I have oil pressure that is making the oil pressure sensor in the center console max out. Even after letting it warm up it still sits waaay above 5 BAR. I pulled the...

My newly built 2.3 is in the coupe and I got it all together. The plugs and injectors are unplugged. First problem. I turn the ignition on and the pressure gauge immediately pegs to 5 bar. So I change out the pressure sender for a newer one. Same thing. Is there a way to test the pressure...

You have the oilsender wires backwards.

Edit. Hmm, maybe not, the gauge doesn't rise when ignition is on but engine stopped..? Well, check the wires anyway: http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52614
