fits on inlet throttle damper thingy.. look at the thread pictures of engines.

Throttle body dashpot damper (slows the closing of the throttle on complete lift off the gas pedal) and bracket.

Item 2 here (for an AAN, but also on 3B, ABY and ADU):

its a throttle damper, as on s2 or RS2 and possibly others. Stops the revs dropping to idle during gear changes....

works on the throttle cable on top of the throttle housing...

Thanks guys just had a look at the engine and seen where it goes can,t think why it would be taken off i take it that i best refit it.

It was probably taken off to again access to the spark plugs under the coilpack cover....

I don,t think the last owner new it was missing but like you said it could be from changing a coil pack he had done in july 09 so it shows you that it could of been off that long , the car has only done 4000miles since july 09 until now i have just done 780miles bringing it from aberdeen to south wales, not knowing these cars i wouldn,t know how the car performs but i will refit it tomorrow.

I don't believe you'll notice the difference with it back on. My car, one of the last coupes, never had one fitted from new.

I've never been able to confirm if the Motronic S/W was changed to compensate - since what this item does mechanically Motronic could choose to do under its software - but I now run fine on Paul's Homefries S/W.

In 155,000 miles driving my car has only stalled once after lifting my foot off the accelerator
