    Petrol in a diesel

OK I know I am really stupid The boss isn't happy I know that for sure. Just wondered what sort of damage I might have done, drove about 5 miles with petrol in it managed to limp back to work from petrol station didn't even realise until I tried to go over 10mph sat in traffic it felt fine
    PS it's a Citroen van

Oooops not good but putting diesel into a petrol is slightly worse so you have done it the better way LOL
Just will be a case of draining the fuel give the system a flush out you will not know what long term damage you have done to the injectors or fuel pump untill you get using it again

    cheers Raj

Cheers for that fingers crossed, will it be ok to just drain it and fill it with diesel then start up again?

Ouch! did your engine shutted off by itself? Maybe you are lucky and didn't had any BAD problem, or maybe you could have bented one or more rods on one of the worst sceneries

Put 20 litres in but was driving in traffic for ten minutes without any fuss, only when I tried to go over 10mph did I realise all was not well. Engine sounded fine at tick over and low revs.

You can run upto 40% mix with a Lucas or Bosch Pump which your van should have. Top it to the brim with diesel and it'll be fine. Running on too much petrol will cause combustion before tdc.

It all depends on how much petrol to diesel is in there. You can sometimes get away just filling with diesel to dilute it, worst case drain the fuel system. A friend did the same in an Avensis Diesel and swears it goes better now than it ever did

I put five quids worth in my van once, brimmed it with diesel and it never missed a beat. All I did was keep filling it up when it got to three quarters and never had any issues at all. Good luck!

Just filled the van up with Diesel so 20l petrol 45l deisel in it now, seems to be ok, took it for a run steady revs and speed up to 60mph no smoke or issues with engine. Phew think I might have got away with it. Cheers for the advice guys.

Some diesels used to recommend putting 10% Petrol in winter months ! Glad to hear its ok.

You will be fine, you did't run it that long with the petrol in it, you will have nice clean fuel lines now lol, do keep topping it up once it drops to 3/4 tank for a while though, dilute the petrol content if you will!
In colder climates they do mix so much petrol; in the diesel to stop it waxing up
