    Dumb engine question???

Still in the learning stage re 20 v engine, been reading a few build threads and a torque plate is used for the honing stage, now for the silly new boy question what is it and what does it do when boring / honing, sorry in advance............mark

It is suposed that block changes its shape when head is torqued. That way you hone/bore exactly like the block will be when head is on.This is my expl.If there are more...

When you torque down a head it pulls the top of the bores square corresponding to the headbolts locations. Realistically its not a major essential process on the I5 engine if you haven't access to one as the deflection in the bores is so minimal its barely noticeable on a bore gauge. Less than an eigth of a thou. However if you have got access to one its a nice icing on the cake so to say.
