    Which Turbo?

I have a UR (3B) that's had the Dialynx treatment i.e. RS2 injectors, exhaust manifold, turbo and bigger intercooler. Allegedly it's running around 350BHP. The problem is that you have to constantly keep the car high in the revs to make it perform.

I've just done the latest round of the Tour De Ecosse and TBH the car was very dosile below 4500rpm and I would also question the mapping. I say this because trying to accelerate in 5th below 70mph was just a waste of time and on most occasions the car would splutter as though it has only been mapped on wide open throttle.

The question is, although it be a rhetorical one, should I have the car mapped again or change the turbo for another type?

If the answer is to change the turbo, which one and what spool up rates would I be looking at?

Maybe it's got some "dialynx special" cams like mine...

Could be something similar to my old one, which was also supplied by dialynx, the turbo dynamics MD147. Except I was seeing full boost at 4k in 3rd+, and power was about 370.

Probably want to get it mapped properly, find out what it is first though in case it's a waste of time... you can get a good hybrid K26/7 that's a cheap 'fix' for an older KKK hybrid like I did. Better spool and lag characteristics with +20% power capabilities, and no 'customisation' required to fit it

I spoke to Keith today as we are still trying to track down the original invoice and the fact that Dialynx have changed their computer system in the last 18 months is not helping.

Basically he said that the turbo fitted on the car is an RS2 type. He suggested that if I wasn't happy I should speak to AET and change it for a GT28 or GT30.

              What do you think?

                Please don't confuse people.
The description describes a car that's running horribly. I think no sense beating the dead horse here.
Plenty of people running 600nm here on stock rods without issues...

And spark hop on a 3B will bend rods even on a stock car.

At who's cost? yours or theres?

Sounds like another dialynx special, if he's charged for a rs2 uprated turbo and just supplied a stock turbo then thats a bit wrong, could be the chips that are making it a bit rubbish.

Your car needs a map badly, if everything else is alright.
What you describe sounds pretty awful.
Either way, ditch the dizzy and 3B ECU.

If you want about 3500 full boost in 3rd, go for GT2871 / 0.82.
If you want about 3800, but more up top and as much as the stock rods can safely handle, go for a GT3071R / 0.82.

I would pick the latter option. I have mapped a few of them and they feel very nice to drive. There is a lot of pull from 3000 RPM, and the car goes nicely up to 7k.

Decide on a power and or torque requirement and work towards it. Stock RS2 turbo should be very torquey from 3k5 RPM onward and produce the power you say. identify what you have first... then check the car over for the usual leaks, misfires, plugs, MAF, etc. Next, get the car spec to the level required and finally, get a suitable map. If there's nothing wrong with the spec then a health check and map should see you smile again.

Steve, you could go for a Hoffer k24 7000 hybrid with a billet comp wheel and get spool that's proper proper fast, mine was possibly even faster than a stock 7000, sounded awesome and should have been capable of 320-330 bhp and about 1.7 bar mid-range, depending on EM and map. Some would see it as a backwards step but if you're after something that has the lowest lag possible then I doubt you'll find much better.
