Strange issue when engine braking (RS2)

Ive had this issue for a while.
If I get off the throttle with some revs on and have the "engine braking" the car sometimes goes into a free roll, as if I has put the clutch in, then the engine brake pressure comes back, then sometimes goes away.

Has anyone else had this issue or have any idea why it would be?

Assuming everything else is in good shape...

    F60, Closed throttle position switch...
    Also, possibly misaligned TPS.

Pull codes and do TPS diagnosis using VAG-COM to find out which.

Solution is usually opening the TPS connector and soldering all leads, it's rarely the switch itself that is bad.

My 3B used to do exactly the same thing, most noticable everytime at one particular place. I'd pull out of my driveway, drive up the hill and at the top (probably 2nd gear) come off the gas as there was a give way. At the moment of releasing the throttle it would feel like it briefly accelerated. A little disconcerting! but never bothered me enough to have it looked into.

        This is completely different.
        Your throttle damper was misadjusted.

can it be that the idle valve may be sticking open?

i had this last week when instead of going into overrun fuel cut, the car was doing excactly what you describe, ie feel as if it is doing a free roll.

then once i came to a stop, i noticed my idle was at 1800rpm!!

a bit of WD40 later, and all ok again.

What he is describing matches exactly what Motronic starts doing when there are problems receiving signals from the TPS's switches.
I'd check that first and pull the codes before taking half the car apart. Of course it can be the ISV, but if you are going downhill in gear, engine braking and it randomly opens and closes injectors, it's usually that.

I've had this on many cars now.

by all means, its likely the thing you are describing. Pulling the codes is the first and foremost.

Sounds like F60 to me. Try pulling the throttle cam open, then release it. You should hear a microswitch style click when the throttle closes.
But of course check for codes too.

I've noticed that if you take your foot off the gas and let the car decelerate the car can judder a bit (compared to a modern equivalent), I've been told this is characteristic for these cars, it kinda explains why they aren't the smoothest when in traffic. I'm sure this is because they're designed to be blasted down the Autobahn and not limping along in traffic...

Someone please correct me if I'm worng....I'm no mechanic
