    Superchips and wastegate

Morning all. Replaced the chips and map sensor in my ecu last night. One of the old ones was a 'superchips' item. The car runs fine until wot throttle then its hesitating and black sooty smoke comes out. Am i right in thinking the wastegate has been tampered with? I didnt manage to get a good look at the boost gauge when it was happening, think it was somewhere around 1.5 bar maybe more. Gauge would read 0.8 - 1.0 before. Im not sure how accurate my gauge is. Car ran spot on before the chips were replaced.

The cap is missing from the top of the w/g.*
Do i need to remove the top and measure spring height and coil thickness to see if its standard or not first?

    Any help appreciated!

    Cheers
    Dave

You probably have a boost leak.

Check for an in line split in your throttle body hose, this is a common place for leaks. Otherwise boost leak test time and some soapy water...

If it had a superchips chip in there, then you want to check the spring for sure.

What chips / MAP have you fitted? Is it a 3B, hence upgrading the MAP?

Could also be a serious boost leak, although that should trigger the overboost protection.

1.5 bar is way too much as well, it should not hit that.

Its a standard 3b with both chips for ~270bhp bought here on the forum and 2.5 bar map sensor.

Ill do another boost leak test and check the pipes/hoses around the throttle and intake manifold.*

Is there a good procedure for setting up the wastegate spring?
Is it 0.4 with wgfv disconnected? Do i have to make sure its a stock spring before i do this?

No, just do it, it should be 0.4

last night i wound the w/g cap screw pretty much all the way out (anti-clockwise), gave it WOT on the way home, the gauge showed 1.6 bar, smoke out the back and horrible spluttery noise, just as before.
Went straight back to regular driving after that and all was well.

Whipped the cap off the w/g after it'd cooled down and the spring looked fairly big.
Measured it up and it matches this one

64mm in length, 3.9mm coil thickness. Superchips

the cap looks standard with a 6mm allen head bolt flush-ish in the top with a spring seat/retainer on the underside of the cap. diaphragm appears ok.

So a standard spring should see this right? Is there anything else that supersh**s do aswell as the lonely chip and big spring?

              cheers

Fit stock spring, and get some decent chips from your ECU.
All this superchips **** belongs to the bin.
